Take-away, throw away? U-turn in waste policy

Luxembourg wanted to declare war on single-use packaging. Now things are turning out quite differently - much to the annoyance of environmentalists and the relief of the catering industry. But what does it mean for consumers when reusable packaging remains optional while delivery services and the like are flourishing?
Valeria Ortiz Palafox has mixed feelings about Luxembourg's efforts to use its resources more sparingly. Six years ago, together with like-minded people, she advocated in the Chamber of Deputies for a significant reduction in the amount of plastic packaging in the Grand Duchy. They represented thousands of people who had signed the related petitions.
"As a mother of two children, my concern is obvious. I think the future of the new generation is being jeopardised by the amount of waste we produce every year, " Ortiz explains her commitment to the Journal. Among other things, she refers to the incineration of plastic waste and the problem of microplastics.
However, as still-partner of a food truck business, she also knows this perspective. "When we opened the food truck, we always had this vision of avoiding as much waste as possible. We tried everything in our power, which is not easy, to be honest."
