"Many things have changed"
By Pascal Steinwachs, Misch Pautsch Switch to German for original articleParliament is leaving for the summer recess. It's the ideal time for us to get to the bottom of the parliamentary group chairmen after the first few months of the new legislative period. Our new series begins with CSV group leader Marc Spautz.
We meet the leader of what is still the largest party in his very tidy office. What immediately catches our eye is the electrically height-adjustable desk, which Marc Spautz proudly shows us how it works – he always reads the newspapers standing up.
Most of the rest of the furniture in the group leader's office comes from his predecessors, some of it even from Jean-Claude Juncker, who, as most people will probably remember, briefly held the role of Leader of the Opposition after his resignation as Prime Minister. Despite his busy schedule – there is a public parliamentary session in the afternoon – the 61-year-old Spautz takes all the time in the world to answer our questions.
Lëtzebuerger Journal: CSV MP, CSV Secretary General, party president, parliamentary group leader, short-term minister, MP and now parliamentary group leader again. Your political career somehow reminds us of cycling legend Charly Gaul: uphill, downhill with Marc Spautz.
Marc Spautz (laughs): You can look at it like that. There were good times and there were less good times, but I'm still here.
