"You have to take a clear stance"
By Pascal Steinwachs, Misch Pautsch Switch to German for original articleThe European elections are just around the corner. A good opportunity to talk to the candidates of the participating parties. This time it's the turn of the Pirate Party.
Pirate Nadine Do Carmo Freitas is excited. What has almost become a routine for some of the candidates of the major parties, namely giving interviews and talking about their political priorities, is something rather special for smaller parties like the Pirates. So far, only Pirate leader Sven Clement, Pirate coordinator Marc Goergen and the Pirate Party's political advisor, ex-Ilres General Director Tommy Klein, who joined the party in the 2023 super election year, have had a certain amount of experience in dealing with the media. The two MPs now have a third comrade-in-arms at their side in parliament, Ben Polidori.
Starsky Flor, who arrives at his party's premises a little later than Nadine Do Carmo Freitas, is a little more relaxed than his fellow candidate. For him, who is also the party spokesperson and a local councillor in Useldingen, this is the sixth election he has taken part in. In the last European elections five years ago, he came second on the Pirate list behind Daniel Frères.
These are only the second elections for Nadine Do Carmo Freitas. In last year's chamber elections, she came tenth on her party's centre list. The Pirate Party's other candidates for the post of MEP are co-party spokesperson Rebecca Lau, Lucy Agostini, who at 19 is the youngest of all the candidates, Käerjeng local councillor Vincenzo Turcarelli and, as the lead candidate, 60-year-old Raymond Remakel.
A little later, they are joined by Tommy Klein, who is not a candidate but, as campaign manager, listens attentively to the conversation and occasionally says something.
