To mark the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action on Friday, April 4, the Journal takes you on an in-depth exploration of this ongoing and seemingly endless effort, as new conflicts continue to erupt around the world.

On January 16, two Cambodian deminers were killed by a mine. Two more victims at a time when the South-East Asian country has embarked on a vast demining campaign that was due to end this year but will continue until 2030. More than 4 million explosives have already been neutralised since 1992. The poisonous/deadly legacy of decades of conflict, from the 1940s to the 1970s.
