Once again this summer, Luxembourg invites you to rediscover your own country. Under the banner of Luxembourg's terroir, Lëtzebuerg, dat ass Vakanz! puts regional products and experiences in the spotlight. Highlights include Vëlosummer, Guide for one day and a new festival in Beaufort: Stones in Vibration.
The summer holidays are just around the corner and, as every year, the question arises: where shall we spend our holidays?
For anyone who'd like to get to know their own region better, Luxembourg is an ideal destination. Lëtzebuerg, dat ass Vakanz! is now in its tenth year and, once again this year, showcases all that is possible in the small, often underestimated but beautiful country of Luxembourg.
Lëtzebuerg, dat ass Vakanz!
Particular emphasis is placed on the connection between enjoyment and origin. Under the theme of Luxembourgish terroir, it becomes clear just how strongly regional identity is shaped by local produce. Whether it's wine from the Moselle Valley, artisanal cheese or traditional festivals, there's plenty on offer to encourage you to rediscover Luxembourg.
But it's not just Luxembourg's terroir that takes centre stage; two classic events from recent years are also back on the programme, alongside a new, free festival featuring music, food and local produce at Beaufort Castle.
Vëlosummer
Just in time for the start of the summer holidays, Vëlosummer kicks off on 18 July.
Cyclists of all ages can hop on their bikes and discover Luxembourg's diverse landscapes on two wheels.
Alongside some familiar routes from previous editions, four new routes are on the programme for this year's Vëlosummer.
The Family Tour am Süden covers just under 14.5 km through the city centres of Dudelange and Bettembourg and is open for cycling throughout the entire duration of Vëlosummer. The varied Wou läit Buddeler? route also offers something to look forward to during Vëlosummer on 25 and 26 July, as well as on 1 and 2 August. Over 38 km, this route offers fantastic views of the Moselle region. Also on 1 and 2 August, the Nordstad-Tour along the Sûre takes you through the communes of the Nordstad. The Duerch de Waark- an de Sauerdall tour can be cycled on 8 and 9 August. It starts in Feulen and ends 25 km later in Michelau.
In total, there are 14 routes covering over 500 kilometres to choose from until 16 August. Thanks to well-maintained paths and around 100 km of roads reserved for cyclists, many of these tours can also be ideally combined with other activities, such as a visit to a regional market or a local festival.
You can find all the routes and more detailed information at www.velosummer.lu.
Guide for one day
Alongside Vëlosummer, Guide for one day is also celebrating its 10th edition.
This initiative allows people who want to share a bit of their beloved Luxembourg to become guides for a day and show visitors their personal favourite region. Whether it's a short tour of a castle, a mountain bike ride through the woods, or a themed walk accompanied by wine or literature: with Guide for one day, there's a walking tour to suit everyone.
Anyone who already has an idea for a guided tour and wants to offer it as a guide can do so online. All you need is a brief description of the planned tour and some suitable photos. The initiative not only creates personalised experiences but also strengthens the role of local communities by enabling committed individuals to share their perspectives and stories.
Anyone wishing to join a tour can find the catalogue here and sign up on the same website.
Stones in Vibration
On 22 August, Stones in Vibration will celebrate its premiere in Beaufort. From midday until late into the night, visitors can enjoy local live music and entertainment and discover local produce.
The line-up features well-known names such as NOSI, as well as newer acts like Irem, who attracted attention last year with her single "Liebeslied". As mentioned, alongside the music, local creators will also have a place at the Creators Market at "Stones in Vibration". From handmade jewellery to original illustrations, there's something to suit everyone's taste here, whilst supporting local creators.
Food and drink will also be available: the catering will be organised and provided by local organisations. Entertainment for younger guests is also on offer. The shows, running throughout the day, are sure to delight young and old alike. Free tickets can be obtained in advance online via the website.

Exploring Luxembourg's terroir
This year's theme, centred on Luxembourg's terroir, focuses primarily on local producers and activities. The aim is to showcase the country's diversity.
Numerous events are being promoted at local tourist offices and on social media, for example at @letzebuerg_vakanz. From markets to insights into craft workshops and festivals, there's something for everyone throughout the summer. Many of these events are also easily accessible and can be enjoyed without much planning, which is particularly appealing to those who don't like to plan but prefer to decide on the spur of the moment.
It's certainly worth doing without flight tickets this summer and instead getting to know better what we often take for granted. Those who give it a go will not only discover new sides to the country, but also meet new people and perhaps even make new friends.
