For our photographer Lex Kleren, 2024 was a year full of change. In his review of the year, he talks about the enrichment of photo series in collaboration with external photographers and the importance of authentic images in times when the web is virtually flooded with AI content.
As a photojournalist and picture editor at the Lëtzebuerger Journal, I am keen to emphasise the importance of photography in the press. Images often have the power to tell stories that words alone cannot convey.
The year 2024 brought some interesting developments for us at Lëtzebuerger Journal. We have started to publish more photo series by external photographers, which brings new perspectives and voices to our medium. This diversity is a great enrichment that shows our readers how multi-layered the visual language can be. Collaborating with external photographers not only expands our possibilities, but also emphasises the appreciation we have for photography. The recently published series by our freelance photographer Olivier Thull on the subject of Schueberfouer is an impressive example of how enriching this collaboration can be.
At a time when we are inundated with images and it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish real photos from AI-generated images, it is also crucial to have media that can be trusted. It is important that what we see reflects reality and that the people depicted are real people. For this reason, I present my favourite portraits from the year 2024 below.
