40.000 euros without authorisation: Questionable payments at Pidal

Over a period of four years, the Pidal association of municipalities paid out compensation totalling more than 40,000 euros, even though it had not been authorised to do so by the Ministry of the Interior. The matter calls into question the effectiveness of the control of municipal finances. Researching this information also meant for the Journal, to fight for our right to access documents.

When the board of the intermunicipal association Pidal (see info box) decides on the payment of compensation at its meeting on 25 June 2018, it presumably has no reason to assume that it will encounter any problems. After all, it has been customary for many years for employees of the municipality of Walferdange to also work for the municipal syndicate on the side and receive compensation for this purpose.
