Shayenne Fonck - How to support parents whose child has cancer
By Melody Hansen, Lex Kleren Switch to German for original article
Paediatric nurses bear a lot of responsibility - often invisible, rarely appreciated. 25-year-old Shayenne Fonck provides insights into her everyday life between emotional challenges, a shortage of nursing staff and a special visit from the Grand Duchess. Insights into a profession that affects us all.
It is a sunny day in April when Shayenne Fonck stands in front of a full room at the Kannerklinik. The management of the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) and the Grand Duchess Maria Teresa are sitting in front of her. She has come to visit the National Department of Haematology and Oncology and the hospital's internal school. The 25-year-old nurse introduces herself to her. You can hardly tell that the young woman is nervous. As part of the Lëtzebuerger Journal series, she will have the opportunity to talk to the Grand Duchess a little later – to ask her all the burning questions and tell her about the job she loves so much.
