The Danish postal service caused a stir when it withdrew from mail delivery on 31 December last year. It will not be followed by Post Luxembourg, which claims to be strategically adapting to the decline in mail volumes, which is constant but stable for the time being.
From love letters to bills, postcards and legal notices, traditional post offices have collected and delivered essential correspondence across every country for centuries. That's why the announcement that Denmark's long-standing postal operator PostNord would cease letter delivery caused such a stir on 31 December. Gone from the streets were the red boxes adorned with a bugle – unscrewed and sold at auction tho those nostalgic for a bygone era. And beyond Danish borders, a burning and unimaginable question arises: will the other traditional postal services follow suit abandon their historic mission?
