Fake fur, real people

By Rodrigo Ribeiro

Imagine a subculture where acceptance, creativity, and belonging form a vibrant community. This is the furry fandom, home to many queer and neurodivergent individuals who connect through a shared love of anthropomorphic characters, blending human traits with animal features.

Anakin (27) and Star (29), whose names reflect their respective personas, have both been members of the furry community for over a decade. Their respective experiences provide unique insights into the fandom's evolution over this time, sharing their perspectives on their roles within the community and discussing how the overall view of the fandom has shifted.

It was only in recent years, with the rise of social media and online forums, that the fandom gained mainstream attention, bringing both visibility and further misunderstanding. So, what exactly does it mean to be a furry, and how present is this community in Luxembourg and beyond?
