How private leasing is transforming mobility in Luxembourg

For a long time, owning your own car was the norm in Luxembourg. In recent years, however, the car market has seen rapid growth in private leasing. With more and more attractive offers, private leasing is attracting a growing number of private individuals.
While some companies, which have specialised in leasing company cars for decades, have diversified their activities to include private customers, others have developed their services specifically for the private sector. Today, dozens of companies in the Grand Duchy offer leasing contracts to private individuals.
While most Luxembourgers still prefer to buy their own cars, the growth of private leasing is clear: in 2023, 59,568 cars were registered for operational leasing in Luxembourg, including 6,841 for private individuals, and this figure rose to 62,525, with 8,088 for private individuals in 2024.
A contract to consider
A private leasing contract can take several forms. The most popular of these is operational leasing. Véronique Bourgois, General Manager at Arval Luxembourg, explains: "This is a comprehensive formula that allows you to include the financing of a new vehicle in a fixed monthly rent, as well as a whole range of services such as maintenance, servicing, tyres and insurance."
